Proverbs 22:6 is a challenge to Christian parents to train our children to believe in and follow God's word. We are to teach them God's ways and truths so that as they grow and mature, so does their relationship with our Heavenly Father. This is sometimes easier said than done, since we parents are still learning God's truths ourselves.
There are times we fall short, use harsh words, forget to show grace and mercy, do things we know are questionable and need a reminder of what God has to say about this or that. In putting together our Child Training Bible, I have to say it was a wonderful refresher on several topics. And it is so awesome to have a way to pick a topic and be able to find the scriptural references without needing to Google it since my memory is not what I'd like for it to be. (No old age jokes, here ;) But knowing, as my toddler and soon to join us baby will be needing sound guidance from myself and my husband as we train them up in the ways of the Lord to be godly young men, we will have this as an added resource is exciting and comforting. The Child Training Bible is truly a wonderful resource for families! It makes the Bible so accessible!
Here is what you will need. The CTB kit, a 9 x 6 Bible, sticky tabs, highlighters and a pencil or ball point pen. The instructions are clear and very easy to follow. You will also need a few hours to put it all together. I'm not sure how long it takes if you sit down and can do it all at once, I would guess between 2 and 3 hours. I did it in shorter spurts since I'm chasing around Mr. T and getting ready for Mr. F. It took me about 2 weeks of 10 to 30 minute time slots at the kitchen table. Be aware that you may not want to allow a younger child (say a 2.5 year old) to see you highlighting the Bible or you may end up with a hand print of marker ink near the middle of Proverbs. :)
The finished product is easy to use, colorful, and worth every minute it takes to get together, labeled and read through. It was really a blessing to be able to read the verses as I was putting it together. It was like having an extra devotional time each day I got to work on it.
And now for the awesome part! Mindy has graciously offered to give one of my readers their very own CTB kit of the key, the tabbing guides (double sided) and instructions for putting together your very own Child Training Bible. Check out their supplies page here to see what other supplies you will need. The giveaway will open Monday July 9th and end on Sunday July 15th at midnight. We will announce the winner here and on our facebook page!
