It's that time of year again! Gift giving can be difficult for little guys, so here is our top 5 (non electronic) gifts for preschool boys.

You simply cannot go wrong with books. Boys need books to help foster imagination and to encourage them in all their pretend adventures. Some of our favorites include Where the Wild Things Are , I'd Be Your Hero , and Llama Llama Red Pajama . For preschool boys I do prefer used but good condition books so that if they are damaged it isn't a terrible loss. For books you want them to keep, I'd suggest putting them up somewhere where they will be protected until your preschooler is a bit older.

Music should be part of every child's education. One of the best gifts you can give a child is music. They will have hours and hours of fun playing band, singing songs they have learned at church and playing with their friends and just exploring the sensory delight that comes from music. We love the Melissa & Doug Deluxe Band Set , it has lots of different instruments. Both Mr. T and Mr. F love playing on our child size piano. It sits next to my piano in the living room. It was mine, so you can't find this particular one easily, but Melissa & Doug make one.(It's also 28% off at the time of this writing!)

This little beauty is a magnet board. A really big Drip Tray with some Letter and Animal Magnets . We use this for sight words, story play, and letter and animal recognition. It is attached to the wall with Command Strips . It also a great place for Mr. F to be entertained while I work on other things with Mr. T. Win-win! We will be using it for simple math in the spring now that our number recognition is getting better.

Block, blocks, and blocks! Anything they can build, engineer, and manipulate is great for boys! We recommend DUPLO , Standard Unit Blocks , and the wonderful ABC Blocks that have been around for ages! Boys are usually naturally drawn to fun toys they can build and knock down again. They don't seem to outgrow it, either. Mr. J is still very much a LEGO lover!

Any item that a preschool boy can use outside is a winner! We have several Melissa and Doug Sunny Patch outdoor play items: a bug house, a magnifying glass, binoculars, flashlight, watering can and we love the Crayola Camera . It's so cool to be able to see Mr. T's view of the world and what catches his attention. Pictures of nature walks are so fun to have for learning inside when the weather isn't cooperating.

Those are our top 5 gifts for preschool boys! What gifts do you love for the preschoolers in your house?
