Teaching toddlers to take turns takes patience. Just like we are, toddlers are very selfish and want what they want, when they want it. Redirection is great for younger tots who want the same toy. When they get a little bit older, teaching them about sharing and taking turns is imperative. Watch your toddlers from a safe distance when they are playing with other friends. If you see a possible situation, intervene and gently remind your toddler about taking turns. Redirect to another toy if necessary. As they get older you won't need to intervene immediately. Let them learn how to resolve conflicts on their own, just be close enough to step in if need be.
